Fear was the feeling that was over riding her senses as she ran out of the house, throwing her bag into the back seat. Running away was her goal, she couldn’t stay here any longer because if she did, death would be in her very near future. No one could live like she had for the past year and make it out alive if they didn’t run.
Tatia put her car in drive and quickly left the house she had called home for well over a year, tears blinding her vision. It was a cold, rainy night as she set out for a place to go, anywhere but here. She had been terribly mistaken when she thought she was happy, thinking it was a good idea to move in with this guy, the man she had been dating for almost two years. Then again, he wasn’t a man, was he? No man would hit a woman to receive what he wanted, to feel superior.
Nik had been the rebound guy in the beginning. She had been going through a break up when she met him at the Grill and he had just been there. He was sweet at first, but things changed quickly after they moved in together. When she did something to piss him off, his hand would end up across her face. She couldn’t count how many times she had to use a ton of make up to cover up bruises on her face before she went out in public. No one knew of her situation because she was too afraid. He had threatened her, that if she did tell anyone he would really hurt her, that everything she had experienced thus far was nothing. Then again, who would she tell? Since they became an item, friendships became distant because Nik didn’t like them or vice versa. So in reality she had no one to tell, no one to confide in or talk to.
She hadn’t realized where she was headed until she was on his street, heading toward the boarding house that his family had owned for years. Damon Salvatore, her childhood best friend and her first love. She couldn’t deny how much she missed him, even still after two years of silence it hadn’t changed. He had always been a huge part of her life and then one day he was gone. He left for the army and she supported him, she really did but it wasn’t easy dating someone on a different continent and time zones completely opposite from the other. It crashed and burned horribly wrong. They had both said things they didn’t mean and that was it, they hadn’t talked since. Despite all of that, he was the one person she knew she was safe with and she prayed that he didn’t turn her away.
Her face had to look awful and she knew she was probably going to scare him with the bruises and cuts all over her. She knew for certain her forehead was bleeding, her left eye was in pain, as well as her wrist and those were not counting the other smaller cuts and bruises. Other than him, her only other option was the police and sadly, she didn’t completely truth them. Even after all this time she knew she could trust him and that she would be safe there. Throwing her car in park and grabbing her bag, she ran to the front door but it was no use, she became soaked with rain causing her to shiver. She rang the door bell and prayed to God he answered since it was well after midnight.
